Haven now operating at Johan Sverdrup field

Jun 22, 2018

Haven, accommodation jack-up rig owned by Jacktel, subsidiary of Master Marine has been safely installed at Johan Sverdup field. The rig will provide accommodation for Equinor’s drilling platform during the next phase of the project.

From the conceptual stage, Semar has assisted Master Marine with the feasibility and engineering studies to enable Haven to be installed on the Johan Sverdrup field. The project benefited from the synergy of disciplines and competence composing Semar covering structural design and analysis, structural integration, marine design, hydrodynamic and hydrostatic analyses including CFD and marine operations.

The modification to Haven involved swapping the footings of the jack-up rig with larger and deeper footings (caissons) to meet the requirements of a higher elevated position at 115m water depth and the demanding soil conditions observed at the Johan Sverdrup location. The design and engineering development resulted in tricell suction caisson footings measuring 25m high with three cells of 13m diameter comprising a total of approximately 2000t steel per footing.

These impressive and massive structures were designed against footing structural requirements but the study also documented the effect of these additions to seakeeping of the rig using CFD and the global hull strength by FEA.

After the design phase, Semar followed-up with assistance to Master Marine on the offshore installation phase from the planning and preparation of procedures to the actual operation with relevant personnel on-board involved vessels, helping maintaining knowledge and experience continuity until the access bridge was finally connected to the drilling platform.

This achievement shows, once again, Semar’s ability to perform and deliver comprehensive engineering services on challenging multi-discipline projects and by knowledge-based engineering, safely overcome operational limits of an installation in a collaborative environment.
